Release Blitz + Review: Balance Check by M.E. Carter

Title: Balance Check
A #MyNewLife Novel
Author: M.E. Carter
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: August 18, 2017

Life has a funny way of throwing you off balance.

Take me for example. I spent years in a bad marriage with a self-serving ass, only to have the love of my life show up when I least expected him. Greg helped me on my journey of self discovery and taught me that, no, I’m not perfect. But I’m perfectly me.  It was an amazing journey.

We laughed hard. We loved even harder.

And then he was suddenly and cruelly ripped away from me by the unclenching jaws of fate.

Ok, so it wasn’t that dramatic. And I really need to stop watching the Investigation Channel.

But now Greg is back and as it turns out, re-incorporating someone into your life isn’t that easy. Between jobs, kids, and barely-there friendships, life and love can be messy. Making it all work is a balancing act.

But we’re determined to get it in check.

Author Bio

Mother, reader, storytellerME Carter never set out to write books. But when a friend practically forced a copy of Twilight into her hands, the love of the written word she had lost as a child was rekindled. With a story always rolling around in her head, it should come as no surprise that she finally started putting them on paper. She lives in Texas with her four children, Mary, Elizabeth, Carter and Bug, who sadly was born long after her pen name was created, and will probably need extensive therapy because of it.

I really really liked how the second part of Greg and Elena's story was developed.
This second book takes off when Greg returns to live in the same city as Elena after an absence of 9 months.

I think that Elena was the one who changed the most during this time: she grew stronger, she's now sure of herself and doesn't let anyone put her underneath them. I really admired this new version of Elena, and I think that yes, Greg going away made her suffer, but gave her also the occasion to become the woman she was meant to be. She's now an independent woman, and stronger because of it.

Also Greg grew up in a way, especially considering his attitude towards Libby. It was great to see him finally put a stop on her craziness when she threaten to flip over his life again.
And he was the same great man of the first book, so I was only happy to see that he and Elena managed to overcome their insecurities and difficulties to get their happily ever after.

It was once again soooo funny to read about Callie, she's such an hilarious woman! And Deborah was also a nice addition to their girl posse. I liked how she made Elena show her new self, not the old insecure woman of the first times after the divorce.

And like the first book, one of the things that comes to my mind when I think about Balance Check is that it's a book about real life, and everyone could be a Elena, Greg or Callie. The difficulties they have to deal with are ones of everyday life, discussions, children, parenting methods, love after a divorce and so on. I liked this, really much. Many people can and will recognise themselves in one or more characters from Balance Check.

Cover Reveal: #1 Player (#1 Series #2) by T. Gephart

Title: #1 Player
Series: #1 Series #2
Author: T. Gephart
Release Date: October 26th, 2017

Lila Callan had an unconventional upbringing—unavoidable when your mother owns a brothel. But while she’d inherited some of her parents’ ‘wacky and offbeat’, she was also strong, independent and incredibly intelligent. The fact she was tall, beautiful and blond was a bonus she never really cared to exploit. She wasn’t uptight; it’s just that long term was more her thing, with zero interest in one-night stands.

Until she met Ryan York and then she isn’t so sure.

Blindingly good looking.

Insane body.

Infectious sense of humor.

And charm for days.

Ryan York was movie star material.

Except that he wasn’t.

He’d turned his back on the idea of hitting the big time, more content with being Eric Larsson’s—his best friend who was a movie star—right-hand man. Despite his laid-back persona, he was a guy who could get stuff done. And women lined up to be done by Ryan. He did not have a problem with that. Not. At. All.

Except his magical panty dropping powers didn’t seem to extend to the lovely Lila. And she wasn’t sure if she was going to teach the #1 player a new game, or find one herself.

One way or another, they were both getting naked

About the Author:

T Gephart is an indie author from Melbourne, Australia.

T’s approach to life has been somewhat unconventional. Rather than going to University, she jumped on a plane to Los Angeles, USA in search of adventure. While this first trip left her somewhat underwhelmed and largely depleted of funds it fueled her appetite for travel and life experience.

With a rather eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history, T struggled to find her niche in the world.

While on a subsequent trip the United States in 1999, T met and married her husband. Their whirlwind courtship and interesting impromptu convenience store wedding set the tone for their life together, which is anything but ordinary. They have lived in Louisiana, Guam and Australia and have travelled extensively throughout the US. T has two beautiful young children and one four legged child, Woodley the wonder dog.

An avid reader, T became increasingly frustrated by the lack of strong female characters in the books she was reading. She wanted to read about a woman she could identify with, someone strong, independent and confident who didn’t lack femininity. Out of this need, she decided to pen her first book, A Twist of Fate. She enjoyed the process so much that when it was over she couldn’t let it go.

T loves to travel, laugh and surround herself with colourful characters. This inevitably spills into her writing and makes for an interesting journey – she is well and truly enjoying the ride! Based on her life experiences, T has plenty of material for her books and has a wealth of ideas to keep you all enthralled.

Sneak Peek: Drunk Dial by Penelope Ward

Title: Drunk Dial
Author: Emma Hart
Release Date: August 21st, 2017

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him.

Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.

I didn’t think he’d call me back.

I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become.

Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets.

Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.

A complete STANDALONE.

After that evening, I hadn’t heard back from him for a few days.

Then, one night, a text came in from the same phone number I recognized as Landon’s. It was the first time he’d texted me.

I looked down to find he’d sent a photo.

I gasped.

It was a heavily tatted man set against the backdrop of the ocean at sunset. Oh, my. It was him—a selfie.

Fuck. Me. He was beautiful.

I wouldn’t have even known it was Landon were it not for the blue eyes I recognized instantly. The shaggy, caramel hair I remembered from the past was now a darker shade of brown and shorter, cropped closer to his head. His arms and his chest were inked, his body so perfect that if I squinted, it almost resembled carved stone.

I couldn’t stop looking at him. My eyes wanted nothing more than to explore the ridges and valleys of his stunning body.

Was this a cruel joke?

This was not Landon!

But, it was.

With my thumb and middle finger, I kept zooming in and out, examining the details of the ink across his chest and on his arms. There was really nothing sexier than a guy with perfect arms and a full sleeve tattoo.

Even though his lips seemed fuller than I recalled, they still curved into a familiar grin that oozed confidence. The eyes and that smile were the only traces of the boy I remembered. I wished I could’ve leapt through the screen to smell him, touch him.

“Hi, Landon,” I whispered, for a brief moment talking to the boy inside, not the man in front of me.

This Landon was the polar opposite of the Ivy League yuppie image previously in my head. The only thing the man pictured might have majored in was badassery. He looked like a rockstar, a rule breaker, displaying a sense of arousing danger—someone who must have had women from all walks of life drooling over him for the sheer fact that either they couldn’t have him or shouldn’t have him. It suddenly became clear why, as he’d alluded to, a woman might have been begging him for sex. That made me wonder if he had any secret tattoos in spots I wasn’t allowed to see.

A fire was burning inside of me, and I knew it was my crush exploding into a full-blown obsession.

A self-conscious feeling came over me. If I was scared to show him a picture of myself before, now I was really hesitant.

The message that went along with the photo simply read:

Now show me you.

What if one morning you look in the mirror and no longer recognize the person looking back?

Yet not everyone in her new community is what they seem, starting with the surly mountain man down the road.

As owner of the local fishing lodge, Roar is content with his everyday life. And the older he gets, the less he appreciates change. So when a blue-haired, tattooed ‘city girl’ moves into the old motel, shaking up his daily routine, he’s none too pleased.

Still, something about the woman’s easy smile and almost reckless grit has him step up as her keeper.

I slap my thigh where a mosquito just bit me. I wipe at another one that lands on my arm, and pretty soon the buzzing is loud around my head, and I’m frantically waving my hand around my face. A blood-sucking army is out tonight, and I scramble to my feet, snatch up the now empty bottle, and hustle toward the sanctuary of my house.

My heart lodges in my throat when I see a figure detach itself from the shadows of the porch.

“Was wondering how long it would fucking take before you came running.”

I bend over, gasping to get air in my lungs, when I hear the voice.

“I swear, Riordan Doyle…one day you’ll be the death of me.”

“Not what I had in mind,” he chuckles easily, as he grabs my arm, drags me inside, and out of the way of the charging mosquitoes.

“What are you doing here?” I ask, as he takes the bottle from my hand, sets it on the counter, and pulls me into my living room. There he drops down on the threadbare couch and tugs me down beside him. “I thought you went home?”

“I did,” he confirms, throwing his arm over my shoulder and tugging me to his chest. “And I was just putting my feet up on the coffee table when I realized I didn’t want to be there.”

“No,” he repeats. “Couldn’t relax. Started thinking about this…thing…between us. And you know what? Waiting for the right time is for the fucking birds.”

“It is?”

“It absolutely fucking is,” he says with conviction, curving his free hand along my jaw and turning my face toward him.

His hazel eyes are almost black in the scarce light of my living room, his heavy-lidded gaze roaming my features before settling on my lips.

“I’m thinking right now sounds like the right time.”

I can feel the deep rumble of his voice down to my toes, and my own drops a few octaves lower as well.

“You do?” I mutter breathlessly as his head bends down.

It’s clear from my distinctly unimaginative responses that my brain cells have signed off for the day. I’m starting to sound like a goddamn parrot, but Roar doesn’t give me time to linger on that thought. His mouth is already on mine and his tongue is demanding entry.

One moment I’m tucked beside him on the couch, and the next I’m on my back, Roar’s heavy frame covering me, his lips still firmly fused to mine. Good God the man can kiss.

My Review:
Freya Barker is one of my favorite authors. I discovered her by chance few years back (thank you TBB signing ;) ) and I fell in love with her writing. Since then, she has managed to make me an emotional mess with every single book she writes. Every time that I dive into one of her masterpieces, it is an emotional roller coaster with a lot of heartbreak, pain, danger, love, romance and hotness. But it also always fills me with hope. I love reading about these strong women fighting for their HEAs after being beaten by life and people around them during their whole lives. And Change of View is exactly like that. It is a the story of a woman who has been betrayed by the people closest to her and has been discarded like yesterday's trash. A Change of View is the story of her finding her independence again and learning to stand on her own two feet no matter the cost.

Leelo is an incredible character. I admire her strength, her thirst for independence, her stubbornness at times. Her heart is broken into so many pieces that she is struggling to repair the damages done after she's been discarded for a newer version by the person who was supposed to cherish her. With her colourful tattoos and blue hair, she is fierce and determined to build a new life for herself. Determined to start fresh. But unfortunately, life is never tidy and easy. Along with the danger lurking in the dark and the unwanted advances of a sleazy sales agent, she finds a man of few words who cherishes her and wants to protect her from the evil determined to scare her away. Roar is not one of the most talkative people around but his determination, respect and tenderness, help Leelo to heal her heart and start believing in herself again.Of course, it doesn't hurt that Roar is hot and very skillful with his hands :D

Apart from the romance, hopefulness and hotness of the story, you will also find fast paced action and suspense. There are dangers in the woods behind Leelo's motel that no one expects. So if you are looking for some danger to spice up your read, you are at the right place.

So, in a few words, this is a masterpiece filled with danger, romance, hotness and hope. It is a book that everyone should read. So don't miss it. As for me, I can't wait to find out what is going to be next for this incredible author. But whatever it is, I am sure it will be another addition to my top reads for this year ;)

My Review:
I love Kendall Ryan and I love reading her mostly lighthearted stories when I need something to take my mind off the everyday issues. I've read all the previous books in this series so I kind of knew what to expect with this one but it was still a nice surprise. I really liked the characters, especially Mason and the story was light and entertaining with just a pinch of heartbreak and pain.

I am not gonna give a lot of details on the story line as this is a read somewhat on the shorter side :D But what I can say is that there are situations in this book that are simply hilarious :D I mean what are the chances that after having a protected one-night stand, Bren will get pregnant and the one OB-Gyn that gets recommended to her, is the same guy :D Definitely fun.

As for the characters, I loved Mason. He is that rare breed of extremely hot guy who is actually looking for his other half. And in a way, the moment he sees Bren, he knows that she is something special. Isn't that swoon worthy :D As for Bren, I have kind of tough time to decide whether I am more frustrated with her than I like her. Or the opposite. I like a lot of things about her and her love fore animals is one of them. But there are few occasions that I think her behaviour is unreasonable and slightly immature. I do understand her reasoning but to me it feels more that she is immature than actually suffering from a heartbreak.

In the end, I did enjoy this story and I will definitely recommend it if you are looking for something light to read during your holiday. And it doesn't hurt and Mason is a hottie ;)
