Release Blitz, Review & Giveaway: The Weight Of Life by Whitney Barbetti

Title: The Weight Of Life
Author: Whitney Barbetti
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 27th, 2017

“Don’t let go.” Those were my first words to him, as I hung over the side of a London bridge. The words I would soon say again, in a moment that didn’t involve bridges, but something much more fragile: my heart.

He held onto me for three weeks, in a time when I needed to be held. Needed to connect to someone who understood how loss tunneled unrepentantly through the fabric of your soul.

Although he said he'd stay, we both knew he wouldn't. I had already survived one loss—I didn't know if I'd survive another.

She spun into my life like a tornado of smiles and chatter and everything else I'd long avoided, with a persistence that I admired, albeit begrudgingly. She broke down each neat wall I’d constructed without even trying. Her presence alone caused me to remember what it felt like to smile, to look forward to what the day would bring.

But it was only supposed to last three weeks.

“Don’t let go,” she’d pleaded.

I’d promised her I wouldn’t—but I would. I didn't have a choice.

My Review:
Whitney Barbetti is an incredible author who can tear your heart out and after that put it back together piece by piece. I've read most of her books so far, and I've loved every single one of them. And I can honestly say that I loved The Weight Of Life. It is slightly different from her other books. The angst is definitely less and I would say that there is no suspense. But that doesn't mean that the story is not heartbreaking in it's own was.

Mila and Ames are two incredible characters. If you've read Whitney's Bleeding Hearts series, then you've already met Mila. And yes, she is not exactly shown in her best light there but trust me, she is so much more than what you would expect and deserves her story to be read. As for Ames, he is a character and BBF who you definitely would want to meet. He is gorgeous, passionate and a little bit broken. Practically, the perfect combination. Both, Mila and Ames have lived through something traumatic. And though in the beginning none of them recognises the pain in the other, step by step they get closer and help each other heal.

In addition to Mila and Ames, I just loved the secondary characters. Lotte and Sam are so intriguing and I have to say that I am dying to read their story (I am hoping Sam will finally get his head out of the gutter and will end up with Lotte :D ). And if you are a fan of the Bleeding Hearts series, you will get a small dose of Jude and Trista :) So worth it ;)

The Weight of Life is not a lighthearted read but it is definitely a book that everyone should read. It is a story of loss and pain, a story of survival and finding happiness again. And it is heartbreaking and endearing in a way that only Whitney Barbetti can write it.

Small Town Scandal by Daisy Prescott is LIVE!

It's here!!!! Small Town Scandal by Daisy Prescott is finally live <3

Title: Small Town Scandal
Series: Wingmen #5 (Standalone)
Author: Daisy Prescott
Genre: Second Chance Romance
Release Date: June 27, 2017

Another wingmen meets his match and this time it's scandalous.

Carter Kelso is a man with a plan. And goats.
Ashley Kingston is a woman with a reputation.
Can he earn back her love before their past catches up with them and destroys everything?

On the island, my last name is synonymous with scandal. With a notorious father and a famous brother, I've been on the sidelines of our small town's gossip circle for years. Nothing to see here. Just a man and his goats, happily going through life. Not a care in the world. Too bad it's all lies.

I'm tired of trying not to be in love with Ashley Kingston, our very own island jezebel. Some people think she's a slut. They think they know her. They're wrong. Screw them.

Reputations can be deceiving. I should know.

Small Town Scandal is a second chance romance standalone novel and the fifth book in the Wingmen series. You do not have to read the other novels first.

Ok, I have to admit that it took me some time to lose myself in this book.
I read the first book of this series some months ago (maybe years?) and I didn't manage to read all the ones before Small Town Scandal.
So, at first, I was a little confused, I felt like I missed some very important information which were given in the previous books. So, my new goal is to read the books that I still haven't read, and then reread Small Town Scandal.

So, leaving behind this part, I started to really get involved in the story when the book focused on the present.
Carter and Ashley have some past history together, they have known each other for a long time. From the beginning we get to know that Carter is still hung up on Ashley, and wish to win her back.

Both Carter and Ashley didn't have simple lives, they had some big family problems that in part shaped who they are in the present.
Between the two, I connected more with Carter, probably because we get to read the book from his point of view. I really liked his character and his personality, and I followed with a smile on my face his quest for Ashley.

Ashley, well, Ashley is a complex girl, a strong woman that had to endure many difficulties. She is not an easy person, but I liked that she trusted Carter enough to let herself go and try to get her happily ever after.

In general, this book was different, firstly because Daisy's writing style is unique, but I really liked it. This book was funny, ironic, sarcastic, but also deep and thoughtful.
I will for sure read the previous ones in the series to appreciate Small Town Scandal even more.

Review: Strongh Enough by Melanie Harlow & DAvid A Romanov

Strong Enough, an all-new sexy standalone from USA Today Bestselling author Melanie Harlow and David Romanov is available now!

Strong Enough

by Melanie Harlow & David Romanov

Genre: Contemporary MM Romance

Publication Date: June 19, 2017

I wasn’t looking for Derek Wolfe.
I wasn’t looking for anybody. All I wanted was to start a new life in America. But when I found myself stranded here with no place to go, he came to my rescue, offering me a place to stay.
He’s smart, successful, and sexy as hell—I can barely sleep knowing he’s right down the hall. And when the chemistry between us explodes one night with fierce, fiery passion, it’s hard to deny there’s something real between us.
But he does.
He says he was drunk. He says it was a one-time thing. He says he’s not into guys and what we did meant nothing.
He’s lying. Because it happened again, and again, and again. And it’s better every time.
I know we could be good together, and I want the chance to try, but I’m done hiding. If he’s not strong enough to admit the truth, I’ll have to be strong enough to walk away.

When I first heard Melanie was writing a m/m story and that David was co-authoring it... I knew I had to read it and I am so glad I did!!

From the first chapter I was hooked to the how the story would unravel and it was more than what I was expecting. The dual point of view gave a depth to the whole story that made me want to keep reading it forever.

Sometimes you could be able to appreciate each author behind the narration and that is something that I simply love cause it makes the whole story more personal.

For being Melanie and David's first m/m book it all turned out amazing! This is a great book for newbies on this kind of genre that is slowly getting the appreciation it deserves in the book community. Though it is also great for seasoned readers of m/m cause it has everything that you need to enjoy an addicting story such as Strong Enough.

Figuring I’d had enough booze to blunt his effect on me, I rolled up the sleeves of my black button-down shirt and moved next to him. “I’ll help you.” “Okay.” I caught him trying to not to look at my wrists and forearms, and it made me smile. How does it feel to want someone and have to hide it? “You wash, I’ll dry?” “Sounds good.” We worked in silence, shoulder to shoulder, and I found myself increasingly—and disturbingly—pleased at the thought of him being attracted to me and being forced to conceal it. It was fucking horrible of me to take pleasure in his discomfort, but I liked being secretly wanted. Being illicitly desired. Being the object of his covert glances and maybe even his darkest, dirtiest thoughts. I let our arms touch more than necessary, as thrilled by the physical contact as I was by the thought of what it might be doing to him. For there is no man who does not sin. My dick started to get hard, clearly unbothered by the whiskey that was breaking down my inhibitions, pushing past all my defenses, and letting my imagination run wild. What’s in that gorgeous head of yours, Maxim? What’s behind those cobalt eyes? What would you do to me, if I let you? What would you let me do to you? “Carolyn is so nice,” he said, handing me the last serving dish left to be dried. What? He was thinking about Carolyn right now? He wasn’t supposed to be thinking about Carolyn—I was, goddammit! But I wasn’t. “Yeah.” He turned off the water. Rested his wet hands on the edge of the sink. “I didn’t realize you had a girlfriend.” And I heard it in his voice—the slightest edge of jealousy, so faint I might never have noticed it had I not been so hyperaware of everything about him right now. I fucking loved it. “She’s not my girlfriend.” “Oh.” Now there was confusion. “I guess I misunderstood.” “She wants to be my girlfriend.” Silence. Of course, there was silence. Maxim would never ask what the problem was. But I wanted to tell him. I wanted him to know. I wanted to share the impossible longing I felt with one person who might understand it. “The problem is me.” He was completely still. Before I could stop myself, I covered his right hand with my left. “Sometimes I don’t know what I want.” He yanked his hand from beneath mine and we faced each other. For the first time tonight, I looked him right in the eye. Nothing around us existed for me anymore. I heard only his breath. Smelled only his skin. Saw only his guarded expression. I had to have him. STRONG ENOUGH KINDLE UNLIMITED.jpg

About Kristen Ashley: Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing's changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Money leaves a gaping hole. Fame surrounds him with loneliness. And no woman makes him feel like Reya used to before the whirlwind of success pulled them apart.

She has to do it with the one boy who ever got close enough to break her heart. But he’s not a boy anymore, and as she gets to know him again she can’t deny her respect for the man he’s become.

Every time she’s around him her heart feels full of air, like a balloon about to pop. Little does she know, Trev’s feelings are just as tumultuous as hers. One thing’s for sure, these three weeks on the road together will either make them whole again or break them irrevocably.

Ohhh, Trevor and Reya!!!! 💙
Here is what I loved about this book:

  • Really well developed characters, especially Trevor. It was really interesting to read the way he managed to overcome the difficulties associated with his medical issue. Actually, his conversation with his psychologist was really enlightening, there were some notions and facts that made me really think.
  • The chemistry between Trev and Reya is off the chart, like fireworks. Since the first time they met, they had this special connection that made them become fast friends, and then something more. But you could feel from the first pages that their destiny was to be together, forever and ever.
  • The narration technique of past vs present was really fitting, because it kept me on my toes wondering what happened the first time they tried to build a real relationship (boyfriend-girlfriend type fo relationship)
  • I loved Trevor for so many things, but especially for his focus, for his wish to become a better man for Reya. It squeezed my breath to see his attempt (successful attempt, if I can say) to be more responsible, less hotheaded, more mature. His decision to seek treatment in order to have a shot with her. All his behaviour showed that he was a man in love determined to win her girl back.
  • I loved loved loved the secondary characters. I really hope we will be able to know more about Cal and Leanne, but also Paul <3 And to meet again the previous characters.... OMG YES!
  • About Reya, it broke my heart when I read about her story. I imagined there was something big in her past, but not so big. I understood her indecision abut being near Trev, because of his effect on her. But I was happy to see that she decided to jump on the love wagon anyway
  • The writing style, as always, was real captivating, and I couldn't put the book down until I finished it (even if I had an exam🙊).

Thank you WordSmith Publicity for giving me the opportunity to help spread the word about this awesome book!
